House Johannesson: Compassionate Care on Namibia’s Coast
House Johannesson Care Facility, part of Palliative Care Namibia and the Cancer Association of Namibia (WO30), provides essential palliative and supportive care services along Namibia’s coast. Located in Swakopmund, this 10-bed facility offers a tranquil and homely environment where patients and their families can find comfort, dignity and professional care during challenging times.
Established to expand access to specialised care beyond Windhoek, House Johannesson addresses the growing need for palliative and hospice services in the Erongo region. Many patients require ongoing medical support, symptom management, and rehabilitation while being closer to home and family. The facility ensures that these services are accessible in a setting that promotes both physical and emotional wellbeing.
House Johannesson delivers a comprehensive range of care, including frail and hospice medical support, stabilisation and rehabilitation services, and effective pain and symptom management. Each patient receives individualised care tailored to their condition, ensuring the highest possible quality of life.

The facility’s calm and welcoming atmosphere plays an important role in reducing stress and providing reassurance to both patients and their loved ones.
In addition to medical care, psychosocial support forms a core part of the facility’s approach. Patients and families are guided through the emotional aspects of illness, helping them cope with uncertainty and change. This holistic model ensures that care extends beyond treatment, focusing on the person as a whole.
Situated at 3 Ferdinand Stich Street in Swakopmund, House Johannesson continues to serve as a vital support system for coastal communities. As demand for palliative care services increases, the facility remains committed to delivering compassionate, patient-centred care where it is needed most.

Dear Members of the Public,
Due to the current economic climate, the Cancer Association of Namibia (WO30) has been necessitated to introduce a nominal donation structure for patients who have until now received fully complimentary accommodation, meals and transport at our House Acacia Interim Home while receiving cancer treatment.
Patients who truly have no means to make the N$250 daily donation are encouraged to apply for assistance.
We remain confident that we can keep our interim home doors open and continue to help our patients in their cancer treatment journey.
